Time Inc. CEO Open to Acquiring More Magazines

Joe Ripp GJoe Ripp, Time Inc.’s new CEO, is clearly a man of action. The New York Post reports that during an Advertising Week talk, Ripp said he would be open to buying new titles and expanding Time Inc.’s influence. “If you’re People… do you buy a competitor,” Ripp mused. “Do you buy Us? Or, do you invest in digital initiatives?”

Ever since Ripp took over Time Inc., he’s been either talking about moves or making them. In late July, he admitted that he was open to selling Time Inc.’s brands, and then earlier this month announced that Time Inc. had purchased American Express Publishing and its magazines.

Ripp also said during his Ad Week talk that “Time Inc.’s problem is that it has been in the shadow of Time Warner for too many years.” With the spinoff coming and Ripp’s appreciation for activity, that won’t be an issue for long. For better or worse.
