WNBC is getting into the Internet game with the launch of www.nbcnewyork.com, its digital arm. The site will supplement coverage on Channel 4 and have additional Web-only features highlighting news, information and lifestyle stories from around Gotham.

Better late than never? Sure, and honestly, any site that lets us know how to get to JFK by helicopter (for $45!) is okay with us.

New York, NY (October 28, 2008) — WNBC launched a new Web site today at www.nbcnewyork.com, a major milestone in the station’s transition from a single analog television station to New York’s leading multi-platform digital media provider.

The site is the latest addition to the WNBC collection of top digital properties and a further reflection of its commitment to providing consumers with the best local content whenever and wherever they want it.

WNBC’s recently announced content center will provide news, information, and lifestyle programming to the new site, as we well as Channel 4, the NBC Local Media Division’s flagship television station, mobile services, out-of-home properties, and the soon to launch 24-hour news and information channel.

The content center is a redesigned newsroom that leverages new technology and workflow to enable high-quality production and high-speed distribution across multiple platforms.

“WNBC is dedicated to serving New York’s nonstop need for vital news and compelling content,” said Tom O’Brien, President and General Manager of WNBC. “nbcnewyork.com is the new destination for city insiders who want to know more, see more, and do more. The site helps consumers take full advantage of the world’s most vibrant city.”

The site combines material from the leading blogs, online services, print publications, as well as WNBC to keep New Yorkers plugged into their city. nbcnewyork.com is for tri-state area residents and visitors who embrace the city and enjoy sharing their experiences. They enjoy the city’s vast dining, cultural, and entertainment offerings and wish to stay informed of the latest news, weather, sports, and traffic.

nbcnewyork.com will attract the locally active and highly engaged audience that advertisers desire. The Web site will provide them with a broad range of advertising options featuring a full suite of media, video and direct marketing solutions.
