AEG Goofs with TMZ-Inspired Tip Sheet

In the wake of Robbie Keane‘s triumphant Saturday debut with the LA Galaxy, AEG vp of communications Michael Roth is being yellow-carded by media outlets for a crass photographer tip sheet.

Roth made the mistake last week of sourcing the ongoing TMZ.com feature “Who’d You Rather?”, which asks readers to vote on a side-by-side choice of two dream (or, sometimes, nightmare) bedroom mates. The forward pass by the parent company PR man of an August 16 TMZ.com poll pitting Victoria Beckham against Keane’s wife Claudine was first reported by India’s Asian News International (ANI) and expanded upon by UK tabloid The Daily Star:

Los Angeles media analyst Mike Raia said: “A lot of people had seen the TMZ piece, which was pretty crude and suggestive, especially in the way it was worded. But for the Galaxy’s owners to then literally point press and TV photographers in its direction is outrageous…”

Roth would only say: “I have absolutely no comment to make whatsoever.”

The tip sheet was sent out to alert photographers about the arrival of Claudine at LAX. Since Roth’s name was attached, one has to assume that even if some TMZ-loving underling was the one to come up with the idea, that Roth OK-ed it.
