Agents and Editors Blog Worst Queries

FinePrint Literary Management agent Colleen Lindsay kicked off Query Fail Day on Twitter this morning, inviting agents and editors from around the Twitter-sphere to contribute 140-word memories of the worst queries they ever received–rocketing up the list of popular topics on the microblogging website.

You can follow the growing list of responses here. It will help writers craft better query letters and make literary agents giggle as they plow through the slush pile. Here’s one from Lauren E. MacLeod: “My fav queryfail ever? Sending multiple letters from prison about the book you want to write about how you were framed. For murder.”

Another from Leigh Ellwood: “pasting a submission in the body of an e-mail? Major queryfail.” And finally, from Colleen Lindsay herself: “I once received lingerie in a query envelope. It was pretty. It got rejected anyway.”
