The 2009 Hugo Award nominees were announced yesterday evening, pitting an science fiction audiobook collection against the year's biggest blockbusters. The Best Novel nominees were: "Anathem" by Neal Stephenson, "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman, "Little Brother" by Cory Doctorow, "Saturn's Children" by Charles Stross, and "Zoe's Tale" by John Scalzi.

The Scalzi-edited audiobook anthology, "METAtropolis," joined an impressive list of films nominated for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form award. The films were: The Dark Knight, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Iron Man, and WALL-E.
