Edwidge Danticat on the Earthquake in Haiti

DANTICAT-PROFILE.JPGIn a NPR interview, author Edwidge Danticat worried about her family in Haiti following a massive earthquake yesterday, stressing the need for international aid to her home country.

“We fearfully are waiting for the sun to rise to see what emerges, and I’m terrified that it promised to be very grim indeed…It’s the apocalypse for this small and often tried country,” Danticat told an NPR reporter in a phone call from her home in Miami. If you would like to help, CNN has a list of organizations accepting donations and sending aid to Haiti.

Last year Danticat earned one of the MacArthur Foundation’s famous “genius grants.” Here’s more from the NPR story: “Novelist Edwidge Danticat was born in Haiti. She lived there until she was 12 and still has family in the country…Danticat tells Deborah Amos she’s worried about her family back home in Haiti considering the magnitude of Tuesday’s quake.
