Homemade Author Video Drives Sales

Author Morris Rosenthal published an interesting essay about how his book video (above) raised sales of “The Laptop Repair Workbook”–without fancy cameras, actors, or special effects.

That video was viewed more than 23,000 times on YouTube, and, according to the author, created a 20 percent increase in e-book sales and a 14 percent increase in Amazon sell through. Rosenthal admits his book still hasn’t sold 1,000 copies, but his measurable results from a simple video should inspire self-published authors and budget-constrained marketers around the web.

Here’s more from the post: “The video was made in a single take with my FlipCam, no script, and I never experimented with running different videos. If you sit through the video, you’ll see it really is about the book, there’s no ‘call to action,’ promise of enhanced performance, longer life, improved self esteem, or any of that good stuff.” (Via Joanna Penn)
