Literary Sites Test Advertising

millionslogo.jpgThree literary websites are experimenting with advertising and redesigns this week–testing models to support the future of literary content.

The Rumpus launched a single trial ad, to gauge readers’ responses to advertising on the community website. At the same time, The Millions launched a cleaner, sleeker design for the literary blog (along with that new logo). Finally, HTML Giant has actually built a new advertising model for their site.

Here’s more details from The Rumpus: “Meanwhile, our sister-site, HTMLGIANT (I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I like saying it. They said it first) has begun selling ads in an effort to pay their writers. We’re looking into selling ads on The Rumpus as well. Today we’re experimenting with an for our favorite publisher (biased? yes) Graywolf Press. They’re not paying for the ad, but we’re getting a sense for how it might look. What do you think?”
