McCain’s Monkey Business
Photographer Jill Greenberg ignited a firestorm today when she deliberately defaced photographs of John McCain following a photo-shoot for the Atlantic. Fox News chased the story, noting that an Atlantic editor promised to apologize to McCain and hinted at a lawsuit against the photographer.
The controversy will undoubtedly move some books for Little, Brown and Company–the publishers of Greenberg’s apolitical book, Monkey Portraits. It’s currently the second most popular “Apes & Monkeys” book on Amazon, but look for an election year bump as bloggers comb the cute photos for political bias. Radar linked to this slightly NSFW archive of the defaced McCain photos.
That’s McCain’s second round of unexpected publicity from the publishing world today. Sales of David Foster Wallace‘s recently re-released portrait of the presidential candidate–McCain’s Promise–jumped 112 percent on Amazon.
