Michael Chertoff and David Plouffe Make Literary Headlines

Chertoff_Michael.jpgTwo political heavyweights announced book news today–former Justice Department head Michael Chertoff and Barack Obama‘s former campaign manager David Plouffe.

Out of the two aspiring authors, Plouffe scored the more lucrative deal–reportedly receiving between $1.5 and $2 million for his advance. His book about the 2008 election sold to Viking, who competed against 16 other imprints at the auction.

Chertoff is planning a book about his time in the Justice Department. The Huffington Post notes:

“Chertoff’s previous publication, ‘Secretary Michael Chertoff’s ‘Select Speeches’ From 2005-2008,’ raised some eyebrows when it was revealed that $11,200 in DHS Chief of Staff funds were spent to publish the book. The books were intended as gifts for DHS alumni who worked for the agency during Chertoff’s tenure.”
