Should Critics Share Reviews with Authors on Twitter?

Urban fantasy author Ilona Andrews initiated a fascinating debate on Twitter today with this short post: “Please do not tweet reviews of my work at me. Thank you.”

Do you think reviewers should flag an author on Twitter when posting a review? Andrews explained her policy: “I don’t read negative or positive reviews, aside from a very narrow window after the book’s release … I just don’t want anyone to be upset because if you tweet a review at me, I assume you want me to read it and I won’t. Not trying to be rude.”

Urban fantasy author Yasmine Galenorn explored the debate on her Twitter page, sharing her own policy: “I pretty much only read reviews my publisher sends me b/c they think I should see it … I learned long ago, good or bad, reviews can throw you off your game. And ruin your day. Or swell your head.”
