Suzan Colon’s Advice for Laid-Off Publishing Workers: “Don’t Be Discouraged”
We had the pleasure of meeting former O: The Oprah Magazine senior editor Suzan Colón at a lunch last week celebrating the imminent publication of her post-layoff memoir, Cherries in Winter, and we took a moment between courses to solicit her advice for other media industry professionals at risk of redundancy in the current economic climate:
Colón (who is still a contributing editor for O, as well as freelancing elsewhere) moved quickly on Cherries in Winter, which talks about the inspiration she found in a collection of her grandmother’s Depression-era recipes (along with other family stories), comes out in November 2009—little more than a year after losing her staff position.
