Arjun Basu, the author of countless Twitter short stories he calls “Twisters,” has landed a book deal with ECW Press.

Quill & Quire has more: “Co-publisher Jack David has acquired the first novel by Montreal writer Arjun Basu. Waiting for the Man, about a dissatisfied copywriter who becomes a media sensation by following his distinctive inner voice, will be published in spring 2014.”

In 2009, one of Basu’s Twitter stories was adapted into a short film.

After more than 1,700 tweets, Twitter author Arjun Basu (pictured) has finally landed a microblog-sized movie deal.

Every day Basu publishes bite-sized, fictional tweets like this short short story: “They tolerated the ennui of their jobs, bought off by promises of spectacular riches sometime in the future. At retirement, they bought guns.”

Now Canadian director James Cooper has made a minute-long film based on one of Basu’s stories. The film is a finalist in the Filminute competition, and Twitter lit fans can vote for the short short movie here. As the broad selection of films in the contest shows, the short short film genre is booming–perhaps looking for more Twitter scripts.
