The 2013 finalists for the Children’s Choice Book Awards have been revealed. Kids can vote from March 19th to May 9th.

The winners will be announced live at the Children’s Choice Book Awards gala on May 13th. Nominees have been divided into four groups classified by different school grades.

In the Author of the Year category, middle-grade fiction writers and young-adult novelists dominate. The nominees include The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 7: The Third Wheel by Jeff Kinney, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, The Heroes of Olympus 3: The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan, and Insurgent by Veronica Roth.

Today is the last day we’ll be sharing the 2011 literary resolutions from writers. It’s still not too late for you to contribute to the Twitter hashtag. Happiness Project author Gretchen Rubin: “My literary new year’s resolution is to write a young-adult novel in a month, using the writing structure suggested by Chris Baty’s No Plot? No Problem. I’ve done this before, to write a novel for adults, but this time I’d like to write a YA novel.”

Picture book author and illustrator Grace Lin: “My literary resolution is the same as it is every year–I haven’t been able to achieve it yet, but maybe 2011 will be the year! My literary resolution is to write something that I am so proud and confident of that the reviews or criticism of it wouldn’t matter. To make a book that is personally ‘review-proof’; to believe what I have done is good and not be affected by anyone’s opinions (good or bad). That and to stop eating while I write, especially high-sugar sweets. That’s a horrible habit I need to break.”

“When You Reach Me” by Rebecca Stead won the 2010 Newbery Medal yesterday. The book follows the adventures of a twelve-year-old girl who “encounters shifting friendships, a sudden punch, a strange homeless man and mysterious notes that hint at knowledge of the future.”

The American Library Association announced the awards yesterday. In addition, four books were named Newbery Honor Books: “Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice” by Phillip Hoose, “The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate” by Jacqueline Kelly, “Where the Mountain Meets the Moon” by Grace Lin, and “The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg” by Rodman Philbrick.

Finally, the Caldecott Medal went to “The Lion and the Mouse” illustrated and written by Jerry Pinkney. Follow this link for a complete list of winners.
