ReedPOP & We Need Diverse Books Team Up For BookCon

BookCon EventReedPOP and We Need Diverse Books have established a partnership. The collaborators plan to organize two panels that will take place during BookCon 2015.

The first panel, scheduled for May 30th, will focus on the Science Fiction and Fantasy genre with participation from Kameron Hurley, Ken Liu, Nnedi Okorafor, Daniel Jose Older, and Joe Monti. The second panel, scheduled for May 31st, will feature appearances from Jacqueline Woodson, Sherman Alexie, Libba Bray, David Levithan, and Meg Medina.

Ken Liu Inks Multi-Book Deal with Simon & Schuster

kenAward-winning writer Ken Liu has landed a multi-book deal with the new imprint at Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing. The first title in The Dandelion Dynasty series, entitled The Chrysanthemum and the Dandelion, will be release in 2015.

Liu revealed in a blog post that the idea for this series came from a desire to retell Chinese historical legends. Executive editor Joe Monti negotiated the deal with Russell Galen of the Scovil Galen Ghosh Literary Agency. Altogether, Monti acquired three books and one short story collection.

Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing to Launch a New Science-Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror Imprint

chandaSimon & Schuster plans to create a new imprint specializing in science fiction, fantasy, and horror books “for readers of all ages.”

Jon Anderson, executive vice president and publisher of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, will oversee the not-yet-named imprint. In an interview with Publishers Weekly, he revealed that this imprint will acquire books for readers of “YA and above.”

Anderson expects the imprint to publish 12 to 15 hardcover titles on a yearly basis. Justin Chanda (pictured) has been named publisher. The editorial team includes Joe Monti as executive editor and Navah Wolfe as editor. (via Tor.com)
