Britney Spears May Publish a Novel

HarperCollins may publish a novel by X Factor judge Britney Spears. E! News reported that the pop singer’s representatives have been negotiating with the executives of the It Books imprint.

Spears (pictured, via) has co-written three books. She collaborated with her mother Lynn Spears on Heart-to-Heart (released in 2000) and A Mother’s Gift (released in 2001). Her 2002 title, Britney Spears’ Crossroads Diary, tied in with her Crossroads movie.

Here’s more from The Hollywood Reporter: “A source tells THR Spears would pen a roman a clef for the publisher. The story would incorporate fictionalized versions of her own experiences, much like Lauren Conrad’s 2009 New York Times bestseller L.A. Candy, which was about a girl who moves to Los Angeles and becomes the star of a reality show.”

Readers Dislike Lauren Conrad’s Bookshelf Box Craft Video

Reality television star and author Lauren Conrad earned 1,848 dislikes on YouTube for a craft video showing her fans how to chop up books and create a storage space using dissected book spines. UPDATE: The video has since been removed.

In the video, Conrad calmly dismantled a copy of A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Miserable Mill by Lemony Snicket to create a “Bookshelf Box”–what do you think of her project?

Here’s more from her site: “In this episode of Crafty Creations I’ll be showing you a clever and resourceful way to recycle old, used books into a unique storage space … I love this DIY because it’s a great solution for stowing away unsightly items that may be lurking on your shelves—remotes, chargers, etc.”

Justin Bieber & Bookselling

Yesterday we wrote about Justin Bieber‘s low circulation figures on recent magazine covers. We concluded with a question: should publishers stop betting on celebrity book deals?

Since then, we’ve found out that Bieber managed to sell more than 700,000 copies of his memoir. Sandee Roston, the director of publicity at HarperCollins Children’s Books, added this comment: “I can’t speak for other celebrity books but our Justin Bieber book, Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever, did really well (and continues to) …  Also, one of our bestselling YA series is by Lauren ConradL.A. Candy.”

What do you think–does this justify our mountain of celebrity books?
