Bristol Palin Memoir Trashes Levi Johnston & Meghan McCain

Bristol Palin dishes about Levi Johnston and Meghan McCain in her new memoir, Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far (out today from William Morrow).

In the book, the teenage mother, abstinence advocate and Dancing with the Stars star tells the woeful story of how she lost her virginity. Gawker has more: “she lost her virginity on a camping trip while drunk on wine coolers … Apparently she woke up unable to remember the event, and was reminded only by hearing her then-boyfriend Levi Johnston bragging about it to his friends on the phone.”

Palin also complained about meeting the McCains. ABC.com has more: “Palin writes that the first time she met the 26-year-old daughter of Sen. John McCain, she ‘ignored us during the entire visit’ … Palin adds that she ‘had a sneaking suspicion I might need to watch my back.’ ‘Every time we saw Meghan, she seemed to be constantly checking us out, comparing my family to hers and complaining.’”

Meghan McCain Memoir Cover Unveiled

mme23.jpgToday The Daily Beast revealed the cover of Meghan McCain‘s new book, Dirty Sexy Politics–weeks ahead of its August 31 release date.

We’ve included a smaller image of the cover–follow this link to see the full book photo.

Here’s more from the catalog copy: “She’s become a model for what a moderate, progressive conservative really is … In this witty, candid, and sometimes raucous book, Meghan touches on topics ranging from what the party needs to do to attract others like her, to the importance of blogs and Twitter in reaching out to younger voters, to what must happen to keep young people passionately engaged by politics in the future.”

On a semi-unrelated note, this GalleyCat editor was quoted in a new feature about the publishing industry’s celebrity book deal frenzy–a story also published in The Daily Beast.

Meghan McCain Scores “High Six Figure Deal”

mccainm.jpg24-year-old Meghan McCain, daughter of former Presidential candidate John McCain, has reportedly sold her book to Hyperion after an auction.

According to the NY Observer, several unnamed sources said the advance was in “the high six figures. “The deal was negotiated by Flip Brophy, who helms Sterling Lord Literistic and represents Meghan’s father.

Here’s more from the article: “While we haven’t quite nailed down what Ms. McCain’s book will be about–no one at Hyperion nor Ms. Brophy returned calls this afternoon–but if her recent columns for Tina Brown and Barry Diller’s Web site The Daily Beast are any indication, it will probably have something to do with the future of the Republican party, and how it must change to attract the votes of modern young people.” (Photo via Daily Beast)

John McCain’s Little Golden Book

john-mccain-kidsbook.jpg

Eat the Press correspondent Rachel Sklar didn’t just go to Meghan McCain‘s book party Monday night, she took pictures of just about every page of My Dad, John McCain, the twentysomething blogger’s new children’s book. “What I find interesting about this book is the timing of its publication and how closely it resembles campaign literature,” Sklar writes—something of an understatement, when you see the full through-line. If the Republican National Convention isn’t sticking these pages up on the jumbotron in the main auditorium between acts, they’re missing a perfect opportunity…

(And, yes, you’re right: “Little Golden Book” is currently a Random House brand. But it was launched at Simon & Schuster, Meghan McCain’s publisher, back in 1942.)
