Simon & Schuster Acquires English Rights to Philippe Pozzo di Borgo Memoir

Simon & Schuster imprint Atria Books has acquired the English language rights for Le Second Souffle (Second Wind) by Philippe Pozzo di Borgo.

In 2001, Pozzo di Borgo published his memoir in his native France. The book inspired the 2011 French film adaptation titled Intouchables (Untouchables); the movie has become a big hit in France with almost 14 million ticket sales. Above, we’ve embedded the film’s theatrical trailer.

Here’s more from the release: “In Second Wind, Philippe recounts his story of being left a quadriplegic after a paragliding accident, which transformed him in an instant from an aristocratic business and social leader into a helpless and tragic figure, an ‘untouchable’ in contemporary society. Eventually, he hired an unlikely caregiver—an unemployed, hot-headed, uninhibited Algerian immigrant who turned out to be just as lost and lonely as Philippe, and who was instrumental in helping him return to the world of the living.”

Portia de Rossi Scores Book Deal for her Memoir

PortiadeRossi.pngActress Portia de Rossi inked a deal to publish her memoir with Simon & Schuster imprint Atria Books. de Rossi (pictured, via) will write about her health struggles and her marriage to television star Ellen DeGeneres.

Atria editorial director Peter Borland acquired North American, audio, and electronic publishing rights to the book. The deal was negotiated by William Morris Endeavor Entertainment agent Jennifer Rudolph Walsh. Publication is set for fall 2010. de Rossi has appeared in a number of television shows, including Ally McBeal, Arrested Development, and Better Off Ted.

Here’s more from the release: “de Rossi shares the truth of her long battle to overcome anorexia and bulimia, chronicling the physical trauma of the disease, as well as the shame and fear she endured battling her illness while living in the public eye. The book’s final section will explore the new happiness and health she has found in recent years–including her coming out and her marriage to Ellen DeGeneres.”
