Dan Pyne To Publish Two Thrillers

danpayneAlcatraz show runner and screenwriter Dan Pyne has inked a deal for two thrillers with Blue Rider Press.

Victoria Sanders of Victoria Sanders & Associates negotiated the deal with publisher David Rosenthal.

Here’s more about the first novel, coming out in 2015: “50 Mice is a provocative Kafkaesque thriller that asks: What would you do if one morning, you awaken to your quietly midlevel life, certain that something is askew?”

Nancy Pearl Gets Her Own Amazon Line

Librarian Nancy Pearl will lead a Book Lust Rediscoveries line at Amazon, a series that will reprinting six of her “favorite, presently out-of-print books” every year.

Book Lust Rediscoveries already has a page at Amazon with two titles: After Life by Rhian Ellis and A Gay and Melancholy Sound by Merle Miller. Victoria Sanders & Associates literary agent Victoria Sanders negotiated the deal with Amazon.

Pearl has worked in libraries in Detroit, Tulsa, and Seattle, and her recommendations have guided readers for many years. She has written several books, including Book Lust (2003) and Book Crush (2007).

Karin Slaughter and Oni Press Join Forces for New Imprint

A while back, when news broke that Karin Slaughter would be penning a graphic novel that her UK publisher Century would publish in 2009, I wondered if there was a US deal in the works. Requests to her agent, Victoria Sanders, went unanswered, but now the news is out, and it’s not exactly what I expected.

Turns out that Slaughter, an international bestselling thriller writer especially popular in the UK, Holland and Germany, has teamed up with comics publisher Oni Press to launch Slaughterhouse Graphic Novels, a new line of original comic books and graphic novels will be devoted exclusively to creations written by established writers from the world of prose fiction. Its first publication will be THE RECIDIVISTS, slated for April 2009. “This really is an area that we were one of the first publishers to focus on,” explained Oni Press publisher Joe Nozemack. “The last time we unleashed a novelist of this caliber on the comic book world, it was Greg Rucka (author of the Atticus Kodiak series and WHITEOUT, soon to be a movie with Kate Beckinsdale). We’ve long wanted to build on that fine pedigree.” More details about the book and future releases from the imprint will be announced at the 2008 New York Comic Book Convention.

Bestselling Authors Get Graphic – Novel, That Is

Not long after Karin Slaughter‘s first novel was published back in 2001, she made reference to a standalone novel she wanted to write called THE RECIDIVISTS. “It’s a sort of cautionary tale with a solid murder mystery at its core,” she told SHOTS Magazine back in 2002. “It takes place in the near future and is sort of a mixture of THE HANDMAID’S TALE meets THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN.” But time passed, she continued the Grant County series and her first standalone thriller, TRIPTYCH, was published last year.

But now, as the Bookseller reports, THE RECIDIVISTS will be published – as a graphic novel. Arrow Publishing Director Kate Elton bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Victoria Sanders at Victoria Sanders & Associates. No word on a US publication yet or on the proposed illustrator for the project, but chances are likely we’ll be hearing such news in due course.

Meanwhile, late last month TOKYOPOP announced that Meg Cabot would be branching out into manga (which I know isn’t anywhere near a graphic novel but I’m keeping my headline, thank you very much.) CORONATION #1: THE MERLIN PROPHECY will continue her AVALON HIGH series, the first in a three part manga sequel. Jinky Coronado will provide the art. “I had an idea for a sequel,” Cabot explained in the announcement, “but it wasn’t enough story for a whole book. I was thinking of doing a novella, but then TOKYOPOP came along with the manga offer, and I was like: Bingo! The idea I had for the Avalon High sequel was just the right length for a manga. And the manga looks great. More than great-better than I ever dreamed!”
