Telecom Invests Heavily in Comic Books

PW‘s Heidi MacDonald has the story on IDT Internet Mobile Group and their purchase of a controlling interest in IDW Publishing, a comic book company best known for its output with licensed pop culture icons like The Transformers, Star Trek, and CSI. (That said, they do also publish quite a bit of original material, including stories in the 30 Days of Night franchise, which is itself now heading to movie screens.) Consider this investment in light of IDT’s acquisition late last year of the mobile content developer Zedge, which ultimately resulted in the formation of Zedge Studios “to develop and license digital content for distribution through web and mobile platforms,” and you’ve got some interesting possibilities…
