The AP Stylebook Embraces Twitter

apCOVER_2009.gifThe 2009 edition of the The Associated Press Stylebook–the writing Bible for journalists of all stripes–now includes an entry about the microblogging website, Twitter.

In addition to this new terminology, the book also includes brand-new information on writing about Beyonce, Timothy Geithner, texting, and baba ghanoush. Among the unhappier additions to the book are a full lexicon of recession-era entries about credit default swaps and derivatives.

Here’s more from the release: “The new edition of the Stylebook adds a ‘Quick Reference Guide’ to make it easier for users to answer the most common questions on topics such as abbreviations and acronyms; homicide, murder and manslaughter; and polls and surveys. An official Twitter account for the AP Stylebook has 6,000 followers.”
