Book PR After “Holy Grail” Kirkus Reviews Disappear

Chief Content Wrangler Kat Meyer of Next Chapter Communications joined Galleycat’s Jason Boog and FishBowlNY’s Amanda Ernst to discuss the demise of Kirkus Reviews, and Editor & Publisher. Nielsen shuttered the book and newspaper trades yesterday.

Kirkus for the uninitiated, is the intelligent trade pub that until yesterday, published twice-monthly slabs of unvarnished reviews of upcoming books. A starred review in Kirkus can mean better wholesale orders, and better library pick-up. A good review can also spark interest in Hollywood to option for development into a movie or TV show.

Meyer is concerned for the future of Kirkus’s massive archive of content. She moderates the #followreader Twitter discussion about books, and blogs at the Bookish Dilettante.
