Thermo Fisher Scientific has chosen Racepoint Group for global PR and social media work. Racepoint has also added six other health care clients to its roster including the UMass Memorial Medical Center and Jiff Inc, a health care social network.The agency has hired Nigel Smith, a health care PR pro with 20 years of experience, as SVP of the global health care practice to help with the new business. Jill Bratina Kermes has been named SVP of corporate affairs in Ketchum‘s Washington D.C. office. She was most recently the VP of brand and corporate communications for Volkswagen of America. Her new job brings her back to Ketchum, where she worked on litigation communications in the late 1990s. She has also worked as comms director for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and worked with Public Strategies.

In other Ketchum news, Ketchum Pleon Paris has merged with DDB Financial, another Omnicom firm. DDB Financial provides shareholder comms, analyst relations, IR, and other financial comms services. DDB will continue to operate under that name and Fabrice Baron will continue as president with the firm working in the Ketchum Pleon Paris offices. The two firms already collaborate for two clients: Vallourec and Klepierre.

Olga Fleming has joined Cohn & Wolfe as EVP, MD of healthcare in New York. She joins from Chandler Chicco company Biosector 2 where she worked with pharma businesses here and abroad. Among the clients she has worked with are Pfizer and Novartis.

Makovsky + Company is talking up its Q3, announcing that it added nine clients to its roster during the period. Among the new clients are Ipsen, an international pharmaceutical company, for corporate and product comms; Symphony Financial Partners, an alternative investment company focused on the Asia-Pacific region, for reputation management and other PR services; and Stroz Friedberg, a digital risk management, for awareness-building efforts.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has made cutbacks in its agency roster, according to the Holmes Report. The publication reports that Bite Communications and Weber Shandwick are no longer working with the company. HP just forecast a miss in analyst expectations for this quarter and the full year. A spokesperson said they “consolidated” their agencies, Weber confirmed it no longer works with the company, Bite didn’t comment. Burson-Marsteller may now add corporate work to the tech services they’re already providing, Holmes continues. B-M wouldn’t comment either.

Pest control company Truly Nolen has chosen Cramer-Krasselt as AOR after a competitive search. Services will include branding, media buying, PR, and social media services.

PRWeek reports that Syracuse University has hired Paul Verbinnen, co-founder of Sard Verbinnen & Co. to help deal with recent allegations of sexual assault against a former ball boy.

Silverpop, an email marketing company, has chosen Crenshaw Communications as its AOR. The firm will provide social media services, conduct media outreach, and raise awareness for the company’s execs.

Cramer-Krasselt‘s Chicago office has been chosen as advertising and PR AOR for Cedar Fair, a chain of regional amusement parks. The firm will work on branding, advertising, media buying, social media, and strategy. Work will debut in the spring.

Hill & Knowlton has a new Northwestern GM with the appointment of Christiaan Brown. He comes from Porter Novelli where he managed the HP consumer, SMB and enterprise product launches. He has 12 years of experience working with Northwestern brands. Brown will report to Dan Bartlett, U.S. president and CEO of the firm.

Roy Perez, president and CEO of RMP Strategies in Sacramento has been elected chairman of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce. He’s been vice chairman since 2007 and will serve a two-year term in the new position. The Chamber represents 700,000 businesses owned by Latinos in the state. [via Sacramento Bee]
