Lippin Group CEO Dick Lippin Named To Paley Committee Planning ‘Emmy Rival’

Dick Lippin, chairman and chief executive of entertainment PR firm The Lippin Group, has been appointed as a co-chair of the newly formed Paley Center for Media Television Awards Planning Committee.

The new committee is rumored to be prepping a rival awards show to the Emmys.

Indeed, Pat Mitchell, president-CEO of the Paley Center for Media, said in a statement, “The formation of this planning committee is to explore the opportunities that we believe exist to create an awards program or franchise of programs.”

Steve Mosko, president of Sony Pictures Television and Tony Vinciquerra, chairman and CEO of the FOX Networks Group join Lippin on the newly formed committee.

Lippin Group Resigns TV Academy Account

Lippin Group has resigned its account with the Academy of Television Arts & Science after a 12 year run. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the agency “routinely had to deal with leaks from the Academy on internal Emmy matters,” and also had to navigate “a much bigger firestorm following the TV Academy’s board of governors’ vote in July to approve time-shifting of eight categories from the live Primetime Emmy ceremony.”

The agency declined to comment to PRNewser. A statement from Dick Lippin appeared in The Hollywood Reporter story, in which he said the agency is “extremely proud of the role we have played in serving the academy and its Foundation.”

Lippin on Leno: “Courageous Thing” To Move Him To Primetime

The Lippin Group CEO Dick Lippin sounded off to Reuters on Late Night star Jay Leno‘s upcoming time slot move. “It is a courageous thing to take an icon on late night and move him into prime time,” he said. “With Jay Leno, you have a higher probability of success than with other people. The question is, what will Leno have to do in order to make it appointment television at 10 p.m.?”

In related news, the Lippin Group itself made a move this week, announcing an alliance with jLINE Group, “an event development and entertainment marketing firm.” The alliance will expand the agency’s services in “event development and production, programming brand integration and product placement.” [image cred]
