First: a Happy Summer Friday to everyone.

Since we’ve gotten a few emails about the newly released Inc. list for 2014, we figured we’d do a bit of reading and rank the firms that scored a spot in the (reverse) order in which they appear.

Roll Call: MSLGroup, M Booth, Hearst, and More

We start with sad news today: Michael Sullivan, MSLGroup‘s North American consumer practice leader, has died. He joined the firm in 2010 and was preparing for a move to London to work on a P&G project for the firm. MSLGroup’s Renee Wilson has kind words for Sullivan on the firm’s blog. And memorial service information is available here.

Katie Barr Cornish has joined M Booth as VP of the firm’s travel practice. Clients include U.S. Virgin Islands, Wyndham Rewards, and Alliance Global Assistance. She will also help with business development efforts for the practice. She was previously VP at Lou Hammond & Associates, working with clients including Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and The Waldorf-Astoria.

Dana Lenetz has joined Hearst as associate director of PR for Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire. She was previously the PR manager for Swiss watch brand TAG Heuer.

Japanese Remembrance Campaign Launches Today

In honor of the four month anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan, VCU Brandcenter, DiGennaro Communications, ad agency McKinney, Clear Channel, and Matt Miller, president of the American Independent Commercial Producers are launching STILLforJAPAN, which is seeking “moments of stillness” to remember and support the people of Japan. Kaede Seville, a New York-based reporter for Nikkei is also leading the campaign.

A Clear Channel billboard in New York’s Times Square will display messages once every hour starting at 1p.m. as part of the campaign, and the company’s radio division in NY has donated time for an ad spot.

There’s also a website and #StillforJapan hashtag to participate and send messages of comfort.

DiGennaro Names First Firm President

DiGennaro Communications has appointed Howard Schacter the agency’s first-ever president, effective immediately. Schacter was previously the marketing and PR head for Steve & Barry’s (the clothing retailer that liquidated in 2008) and led corporate communications for Live Nation when it was called SFX/Clear Channel Entertainment.

Update: The firm has also announced that Melanie Wells, a former Forbes Media executive editor, will be joining the firm in January as MD, chief content officer. Wells will develop a new strategic thought leadership division.
