Chipotle Aims to Tackle ‘Big Food’ with New Multimedia Campaign

Chipotle‘s food may contain some GMOs (score one for transparency), but that obviously won’t stop the brand from gunning for “Big Food”. This high-budget movie makes that point clear with a tune swiped from Wille Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and while we do prefer the Gene Wilder version to this Fiona Apple cover, the clip looks great:

The campaign also includes a mobile game in which players attempt to guide livestock toward the kind of free-range living that Chipotle claims to promote, and it won’t stop there: a series of four half-hour online episodes will expand on this “David and Goliath” story throughout the year.

The idea that Chipotle is a scrappy, organic upstart fighting “The Man” via the big, bad world of industrialized food production is more than a bit of a stretch—at the end of the day, it’s still a fast food chain once owned by McDonald’s. But as long as the brand’s writers and marketers don’t make any dubious, Naked Juice-style “100% all natural” claims, they’ll be just fine.

Fiona Apple Cancels Tour Dates to Stay Home With Sick Dog

Fiona Apple announced via a four-page handwritten note to fans (which she posted on her Facebook page) that she is cancelling her South American tour dates to stay home and nurse her “dearest, oldest friend”, her dog Janet. As Apple explained, Janet “has Addison’s Disease, which makes it dangerous for her to travel since she needs regular injections of Cortisol, because she reacts to stress and to excitement without the physiological tools which keep most of us from literally panicking to death.”

The singer went on to say that after returning from the most recent leg of her tour, she noticed Janet taking a major turn for the worse. “If I go away again, I’m afraid she’ll die and I won’t have the honor of singing her to sleep, of escorting her out.”

Having lost my own beloved canine companion not too long ago, the singer’s heartfelt letter, laced with palpable love, reverence, and pain, hits close to home. So while the cancelled concerts may leave ticket-holders disappointed and frustrated, any fan who has loved (and lost) a wet-nosed family member can likely sympathize with Apple’s reasons. We do wonder, though, whether her handlers are pulling their hair out.

We’ve pasted her letter in full below. If you’re a dog-lover, get the tissues ready — and don’t say I didn’t warn you.
