Former Partner Sues Canada’s Largest PR Group

Today we learned, via an anonymous source, of a motion filed last month against National Public Relations, the self-described “largest public relations consultancy in Canada.”

The suit is being filed by a Richard Zeidel, who was until recently an SVP/partner at Canadian digital agency Sonic Boom, in which National holds a majority stake (the motion calls National “a power broker in Quebec politics”). The RES PUBLICA Consulting Group, respectively, is the parent company of National.

In short, it accuses the firm’s parent company of using the defendant to better position itself for a pending merger/acquisition and then pushing him out.

Steve Mnich has joined MWW Group as director of the San Francisco office. Besides client and new business work, Mnich will lead the startup division of the company, MWW Ventures. He was previously the MD at SS|PR, launching and leading the firm’s West coast office.

Tom Jones (not him)  has been promoted to SVP at Makovsky Health. He joined the firm in January 2011. Since joining, the practice has experienced 24 percent growth. Prior to that, he was the executive director of communications at Novartis.

Desiree Peterkin-Bell, director of comms and strategic communications for Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, is joining the Obama for America as senior advisor for communications in Pennsylvania. Before working with Mayor Nutter, Peterkin-Bell was the director of comms for Newark Mayor Cory Booker. [via]

Russ Williams

Cohn & Wolfe has added two execs to its corporate practice. Russ Williams joins as the SVP of the crisis and issues management group. He was previously SVP at the Hayslett Group. Kristin Sadlon has also joined the firm as an SVP. She was previously SVP of corporate reputation at Porter Novelli.

Joseph Cohen has been promoted to SVP in MWW Group‘s consumer lifestyle marketing group. He has been with the firm for 12 years and has worked with clients including Sara Lee, Gold’s Gym, and Zumba Fitness.

CNN’s Allan Chernoff has joined Fleishman-Hillard as senior business media consultant, according to Ad Age. He was with the broadcast news network for a decade working on CNN, CNN International, HLN, and writing for CNN.com among other properties.
