All I Want for Christmas Is Less Kim Kardashian

kim-kardashian-paper-magazineDear Santa,

I know I’m not perfect and I just got off the naughty list.

But since I’m (probably) back in good standing, I would like to request a special present this year: convince my media friends to stop covering the troglodyte known as Kim Kardashian.

This story is why.

KK often gets press for doing nothing, but this time she is blaming whatever deity she worships for an experience common to every woman in the world: slight weight gain during pregnancy.

What Happens When Mean Girls Handle Maternity Clothing

baby fat shirtLadies of PR, ever heard of Destination Maternity? This is the parent company of A Pea in a Pod.

When my fair lady was with child, I noted this place while surfing the Web for certain clothing. You know? Cute pregger jeans, dresses that do not resemble a Moo Moo, and fashionable threads that do not showcase anything resembling cankles.

This is a place with a nice reputation and always pleasant in the eye of public perception. Marketing has never been edgy. Advertising is not considered abrasive. Until now

After the jump see the most offensive shirt to give a pregnant woman. Ever.

Wendy Williams Gives Some Really Unfortunate Relationship Advice

Wendy Williams

How you doin’? Not so well after this interview.

Wendy Williams usually stays away from PR firestorms, but in this case the heat was a little too alluring for her–so she dove right in the deep end. On a recent episode of her talk show, Williams talked to a woman unhappy with just one child because her husband of six years promised they would have two.

To wit, Wendy says, “Men have never been in control of our bodies” and proceeds to tell her that it would be okay to trick him into getting her pregnant. As if that wasn’t classy enough, she conducts a quick audience poll because that’s scientific and unbiased with a big, glaring *APPLAUSE* looming overhead.

STUDY: Smoking During Pregnancy Is No Longer Life Risk, Just Gay Risk

I can’t tell by the bump: Is that baby gay or lesbian?

Meet Dick Swaab. And I was careful to put the rightful space in-between his first and surname, but after this story, you may want me to delete it. Technically, it’s Dr. Dick Swaab.

Dr. Swaab here is a neurobiologist from Amsterdam, so he’s kind of a big deal in his line of work. His most recent study, as found in Metro (UK), declares findings that says smoking during pregnancy can jack with a child’s IQ or sexuality.

[Dick, here,] said, “Pre-birth exposure to both nicotine and amphetamines increases the chance of lesbian daughters. Pregnant women suffering from stress are also more likely to have homosexual children of both genders because their raised level of the stress hormone cortisol affects the production of fetal sex hormones.”

Of course, he notes “some traits are dictated by nature,” but who cares when he’s got science to back his play like this. GLAAD? Your move. Shall we start with that space?

Oh, Right: Kate Middleton Is Pregnant

Life & Style MagazineToday in Awkward (sort of) Press Releases News, the communications team at Buckingham Palace confirmed that we will, indeed, meet little Prince William Junior (or Juniorette) in approximately nine months: Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is pregnant.

We’re not going to conduct any in-depth analysis of this crucial world-shattering event, but we do wonder: When she agreed to marry the Prince, did Lady Catherine’s thoughts turn to the day when the Associated Press would announce her pregnancy via Twitter? Did she debate whether such a thing is classier than having one’s pregnancy announced on the cover of Life & Style magazine alongside one or more Kardashians?

…and now we return to your regularly scheduled programming. Please feel free to freak out as you see fit–we will take this Very British moment to hope that the third season of Downton Abbey is better than the second.
