News from Quora, Klout, Cision, and More

Remember Quora? Business Insider thinks they might be getting millions in another round of fundraising. Are you (still) using Quora? Should we be using it (again)?

Next week, Klout is introducing some changes to its scoring. According to a post on its blog, Klout’s People Rank is getting a tune up after a three month renovation project. The site says some users could see their scores drop after the changes, but it’s a sacrifice for accuracy.

Cision has introduced Cision Social Publish, a feature that uses the company’s PitchEngine partnership to distribute news across a number of social media platforms and with a variety of different content. The dashboard for the feature includes a Facebook app to publish stories on a company page, unlimited publishing on the PitchEngine site, and the choice to integrate newsfeeds.

And Business Wire announced this week that it has an expanded relationship with the AP. More news y’all!

How Are You Using LinkedIn Groups?

Lots of people use LinkedIn for business purposes according to comments we’ve received on one of our earlier LinkedIn posts and CEO Jeff Weiner, who addressed the topic when the social networking site reached 100 million users.

With some help from our brave intern Mona Zhang (who did a lot of research), we found a few useful PR groups on LinkedIn. Click through to take a look. And, of course, feel free to go to the comments to add any others you think are worth checking out.

But taking a closer look, it appears a lot of the LinkedIn groups offer opportunities for members to discuss questions about best practices and other PR issues, or offer tips and advice to those in need. In other words, it looks a lot like Quora. So we’re wondering, how else are you using LinkedIn groups? We’d like to do a follow-up post to gather up your thoughts and share on the site, so once again, the comments section is open.

‘Entertainment Weekly’ Partners With GetGlue

Entertainment Weekly has launched a rewards program through a partnership with GetGlue.com, the social network for entertainment, whereby readers who check in to items posted on EW‘s “Must List” gain access to exclusive content. The partnership is a first of its kind for both organizations.

Fans can check in weekly for items, and can share the news on Facebook and Twitter. AdAge.com compares it to a check-in program TV Guide has started with Philo, a social network for TV viewers. And both the Oscars and Mercedes-Benz are among the other brands that have used GetGlue. A few people have answered a question on Quora about why they like GetGlue. Have you used any of these platforms? Did you find them useful?

What Info Are You Gathering from Quora?

CNET noticed all of the social media chatter lately about Quora, the question-and-answer site that was actually launched back in June by two former Facebookers, Adam D’Angelo and Charlie Cheever.

CNET attributes the chatter to not just press coverage, which had been pretty high in recent weeks, but also “a second level of discussion and promotion that creates real usage– not ‘everyone’s talking about it,’ but rather, ‘everyone’s using it.’” With the new year, the article says topics like resolutions and 2011 goals.

We noticed quite a bit of Quora talk among PR folks on Twitter this week as well. We’d like to know – What sort of information are you gathering from Quora? Feel free to share your thoughts here, on Twitter (@prnewser), or via e-mail (tonya@mediabistro.com).
