Susan Blond Wins This Charming Man, Other Big Clients

Older, not wiser Top New York-based agency Susan Blond Inc., which specializes in representing creative professionals and lifestyle brands, recently expanded its considerable portfolio with some big names, most significantly that of pop singer, former Smiths leader and asexual icon Morrissey.

While Morrissey has seen his share of scandals in recent years, he remains a top concert draw around the world, and his signing is a major get for Susan Blond. Other new clients announced in a company email include the reform-minded nonprofit Correctional Association of New York, high-end jeweler Avianne & Company, tech production school The SAE Institute and expanding New York pizza chainlet L’asso.

Blond, a Manhattan art-world veteran and former Warhol superstar, has transformed herself into one of the city’s biggest PR personalities over more than four decades of work in the field. These most recent announcements ensure that her agency will remain a top destination for edgy, creative brands.

Chevron has fired Ogilvy Government Relations over what the now former client calls a conflict of interest. The company was Ogilvy’s third largest lobbying client, with the firm making $600,000 in 2011 for its work. According to reports from Ad Age and Bloomberg, Felipe Benitez from the company’s PR arm, spoke to Amazon Watch, an organization that works on behalf of indigenous people. Chevron is involved in a legal battle over alleged toxic dumping in Ecuador. Ad Age is also reporting that Ogilvy PR’s relationship with Yasuni National Rainforest has been put on hold. Ogilvy Government Relations made $20 million from 70 clients in 2011.

Russell Wilson, the college quarterback who was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, has chosen French/West/Vaughan as AOR to handle endorsements, PR, and marketing. He’s already been signed by Nike.

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has chosen Ruder Finn as its U.S. and international PR firm amid controversy over the country’s new government. NGOs say the government took power in a coup. The Maldives Commission of National Inquiry is looking into the matter and, Ruder Finn tells The Holmes Report, if the body finds that the government took power illegally, it will resign immediately.

Betty White Raps, Dances, Says She ‘Can Still Bring It’

She can’t stop and she simply won’t stop. Betty White is rapping with a snake.

The song, “I’m Still Hot,” is performed with the artist behind it, U.K.’s Luciana. The collaboration is a promotion (a little too promotional at times… watch to the end) for The Lifeline Program, a life insurance settlement company. Some of the proceeds from the purchase of the song on iTunes goes to the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association.

Also interesting, note how the publicists get a shout out at the end — Susan Blond Inc, David PR Group, and Lobeline Communications.

The 2011 Texas Tennis Open, a WTA event taking place August 20 through 27 in North Texas, has chosen Zelo Public Relations as its AOR. The firm will manage press relations before and during the event.

PRWeek is reporting that BMC Software and Waggener Edstrom are parting ways. WE had been BMC’s AOR for five years. BMC has begun the search for a new firm. WE has chosen not to pitch the business.

MyRegistry.com, the gift registry service, has chosen 5W PR for services including media relations, events, and partnerships.

Susan Blond Inc has added three clients to its roster. The firm will handle media outreach and strategy for House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year with Tyler Florence, taking place in NYC’s Rockefeller Center June July 18-22. The firm will also work with hotelier Vikram Chatwal, who is behind Night and the Dream hotel chain, just to name a couple. And the firm has signed with Citizens for Water, the nonprofit whose efforts benefit the nation’s water supply.

Sonar has chosen The Morris + King Company (MKC) for PR services. Sonar is a location-based app that connects people based on info collected from social networks like Facebook and Foursquare.
