Roll Call: Telemundo Media, Widmeyer Communications, and Simon & Schuster

Telemundo Media announced the appointment of veteran marketing and communications executive David Alvarado as vice president of entertainment publicity. Alvarado is based in Miami will now be responsible for leading the publicity efforts for Telemundo’s alternative and prime time programming and productions, as well as working closely with Telemundo’s talent department to strategically position Telemundo’s prime time stars across electronic, print and online media platforms. He is in charge of developing cross-functional efforts in partnership with Telemundo Studios and the non-scripted production teams, as well as the execution of internal cross promotions efforts among Telemundo Media’s network shows, stations, affiliates, digital media, and the NBCUniversal properties. Alvarado will oversee publicity strategies for all network program launches including press events and tours aimed at maximizing exposure and visibility for the Telemundo properties across multiple media outlets. Widmeyer Communications announced the promotion of Marina Stenos to vice president and director of Widmeyer’s PreK-12 team in its New York City office. In addition Tracey Bryan joins the PreK-12 team as vice president. Stenos has been a communications professional for nearly 20 years, working with varied clients. At Widmeyer, Stenos oversees NYC-based non-profit clients focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and various arts and philanthropy issues. Before joining Widmeyer, Bryan was President/CEO of The Bridge of Southern New Mexico, a cross-sector partnership designed to bring leaders in business, economic development and education together to solve the problem of elevated high school dropout rates. Roll Call: Porter Novelli, Rubenstein PR, Widmeyer Communications and More

Top firm Porter Novelli announced the addition of industry vet Fred Shank to its roster in the role of senior vice president, consumer practice. Shank joins Porter Novelli after spending nearly four years in a VP position at Edelman PR, where he worked as a strategic leader on accounts for clients like Heineken, Starbucks and Kraft. In his new role Shank will report to Darlàn Monterisi, managing director of the firm’s New York office. (Release)

Richard Rubenstein, president of Rubenstein Public Relations (RPR), announced that Katie Matulonis has joined the firm as social media manager to advise RPR’s clients on new strategies for developing their digital presence, oversee the agency’s social media properties and develop new business opportunities. Matulonis brings several years of experience in social media community management and consumer and lifestyle communications to her new role after working with consumer, luxury and hospitality brands at Goldstein Communications. Her most notable achievement was growing one brand’s fanbase from zero to over 120,000 in six months on a minimal budget.  (Release)

Widmeyer Communications announced the addition of digital media expert Jerri Ann Henry as digital account lead on the higher education and public affairs teams. Henry has led grassroots, digital and advertising campaigns for companies, coalitions and candidates in the agricultural, energy and telecomm industries. She spent two years as digital director at JDA Frontline where she was responsible for all digital advertising, outreach and research. (Company Website)

Roll Call: Edelman, Weber Shandwick, MRM, and More

Kym White has been named global chair of Edelman‘s health practice, reporting to Alan VanderMolen, president and CEO of global practices and diversified insights businesses.  White joined the firm last year after 16 years with Ogilvy PR.

She steps into a role vacated by Nancy Turett, who has been head of the health practice for about 20 years. Turett is now the chief strategist of health and society, a role that will focus on senior client relationships and business development. She’s been with the firm for 23 years.

And taking White’s position as global vice chair of the health practice is Susan Isenberg, previously the MD of brand and product marketing for the health and consumer groups in New York. She’ll also serve as chair of the health practice for the Americas working closely with White. She’s been with the firm for 18 years.

According to a statement from VanderMolen, the health practice has set a focus on diversification and “related societal issues.” That press release goes on to say that the Edelman health practice has 500 staffers around the world and is responsible for about 16 percent of global revenue.

Paul Andrew has been promoted to EVP at Weber Shandwick in the global corporate and image management practice working out of the Boston office. He will focus on messaging, crisis communication, and corporate comms. He has 10 years of experience, serving as special adviser to Tony Blair’s administration.

Julie Roehm is joining business software company SAP as SVP of marketing after a five-year hiatus. When we last heard from her, she was locked in a legal battle with her previous employer Walmart. She was SVP of comms there. [via Ad Age]

Bill Colletti has been named EVP and Los Angeles GM at Hill + Knowlton Strategies. Colletti was previously a senior strategist at Public Strategies Inc., a unit of H+K. He was with that firm for 11 years. Interestingly, he’s also served as a senior advisor to the government of Bulgaria.

Solomon McCown has named Ed Cafasso SVP at the firm. Cafasso was most recently SVP and director of corp comms for Sovereign Bank-Santander. In May 2011, it was announced that he had left MSLGroup in Boston where he was MD.

Geri Ann Baptista

Geri Ann Baptista has joined Hill + Knowlton Strategies as a VP for Northwest operations. She’ll work across the corporate and tech practices in Seattle and Spokane, WA, reporting to the GM of H+K Strategies Northwest, Christiaan Brown. Baptista joins from Starbucks, where she was senior manager of corp comms in charge of CSR. She also spent 12 years as an attorney.

Matt Kovacs has joined consumer, lifestyle, and hospitality firm Blaze as EVP and GM. He’ll be focusing on new business and agency growth. Kovacs joins from Formula PR where he managed the sports and and entertainment division out of the L.A. office. He worked with Formula for a decade.

Christine Messina-Boyer has joined Widmeyer Communications as VP in the higher education practice group. Messina-Boyer has had a long career with colleges and universities, including as Muhlenberg College, where she was VP of PR, the first woman to hold that post. She’s also an adjunct professor at Lutheran College Consortium Washington Semester Program.

Kate DiRanna has joined MSLGroup as SVP of entertainment marketing in the firm’s New York office. She will lead the entertainment group for the Americas. She was previously with Media Storm. [via MSLGroup site]

Julianne Whitelaw has joined Weber Shandwick as SVP and head of the corporate practice based out of the firm’s Silicon Valley office. She was previously the director of corp comms for Cisco, working with that company for more than a decade.

Simon Fleming-Wood has joined Pandora as the music company’s first ever CMO. He was previously the VP of marketing for Pure Digital Technologies. Pandora has 100 million users. [via Ad Age]

Jack Laschever has returned to Forbes Media as CMO. He had previously been with the company as VP and group publisher. The previous CMO, Jorge Consuegra, has left Forbes to “pursue other opportunities.” [via Fishbowl NY]

Erwin Penland has joined the offices of fellow IPG firm Hill Holiday in New York, and is expanding its PR practice, which launched in 1995. The firm was founded in Greenville, S.C. and still has offices there. The firm has also launched a new logo (left) and website. [h/t PRWeek]

The Holmes Report says World Gold Council is looking at five firms for work in international marketing including the U.K., U.S., and Switzerland. The account is valued in the seven-figure range. The new search doesn’t impact the organization’s relationship with MSLGroup, which has been its global AOR since 2009. That account is also valued in the seven-figure range.

The Jeffrey Group has added Bayer and Johnson & Johnson to its roster out of Brazil. The firm had been providing Johnson & Johnson’s with services for its oral care and corporate comms divisions and now adds OTC and women’s health. The firm had been helping Bayer CropScience and Bayer’s corp comms and HealthCare groups, now adding a customer relations program. The firm will expand the 40 Sao Paulo-based staffers working on the account.

Ron Culp is stepping down as MD and head of the Ketchum North America corporate practice. According to his blog culpwrit, “Beginning this summer, I will hang up my own shingle in order to consult, teach, coach and write.” Chicago Business reports that he will remain a consultant with Ketchum.

Roberto Ruiz has been promoted to SVP of brand solutions in Univision‘s client development group. He will be providing clients in telecommunications, retail, and other areas with insight about reaching the Hispanic market.

Libby Langsdorf has joined Atomic PR‘s New York office as senior director. Langsdorf was AVP for public affairs for the New York City Economic Development Corporation. Atomic co-founder/CEO Andy Getsy cites Langsdorf’s experience with the city’s “tech and start-up community” in a statement about the new hire. She has also worked with Rubenstein PR and LaForce + Stevens.

PHD US has named Craig Atkinson president and chief digital officer overseeing the firm’s digital matters and sitting the the agency’s management team. He joins PHD from the parent Omnicom Media Group, where he handled the McDonald’s business and once held the chief acquisitions officer title.
