The most-discussed news of the day today was the failure of a congressional supercommittee to reach a deficit-reduction deal. Shortly before 6pmET, President Obama took to the White House press briefing room to make a short statement.
ABC and CBS both offered special reports. George Stephanopoulos, who is sitting in for Diane Sawyer on “World News” tonight, anchored for ABC, and Scott Pelley anchored for CBS.
All the cable networks, as well as the business networks, took the presidential statement in its entirety.
