Biz Nets Thriving “In The Depressed Landscape”

The Hollywood Reporter’s Georg Szalai and Paul Bond take a lengthy look at the current state of the financial news networks, which have “thrived in the depressed landscape, as people on Wall Street and on Main Street alike try to make sense of the money malaise.”

An executive from each network, CNBC, FBN and Bloomberg, is quoted in the story. Here’s some of what they had to say:

• CNBC President Mark Hoffman: “We’ve seen only gains since September. Our strengths have been accentuated during the financial crisis. It’s a real-time story and we’re a real-time network.”

• FBN EVP Kevin Magee: “This [Jim] Cramer thing hurt [CNBC's] credibility. We’ve made mistakes, too, but we don’t create a circus atmosphere over stock recommendations.”

David Rhodes, head of Bloomberg TV: “The story of the last couple of years was the presidential campaign and politics. Since then the economy has totally filled the vacuum.”
