Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reports that Sony Pictures Television not only reached out to NBC’s Matt Lauer and CNN’s Anderson Cooper about replacing Alex Trebek in 2016, but NBC’s Brian Williams and Dan Patrick too.
We noted earlier that it is far too soon to speculate on what might happen in three years, and that there are some issues facing the potential hosts.
That said, the drip drip drip of news does paint a clear picture: Sony wants a big name to replace Trebek when (if?) he retires in three years, and they want someone serious and credible. Even if Lauer, Cooper, Williams and Patrick aren’t available, look for other big names from the world of TV news to enter the picture.
