Fired Up Bill O’Reilly Helps Put Fox on Top

OReillySharpton
After CNN’s back-to-back ratings wins Monday and Tuesday, Fox News Channel returned to its familiar perch atop the cable news ratings scoreboard. FNC drew the most total viewers and A25-54 demo viewers in both total day and primetime Wednesday. While FNC was up in both dayparts, CNN and MSNBC were both down from Monday and Tuesday.

The host of the channel’s No. 1 show was also back in his chair. Bill O’Reilly cut his vacation short to return to host last night’s “O’Reilly Factor” much of which was devoted to Ferguson, including a Talking Points Memo targeting “charlatan” Al Sharpton and a fiery debate with Bob Beckel and James Carville. And it paid off. O’Reilly had his best numbers since since last Monday, which included breaking news coverage of the death of Robin Williams.

Other Wednesday highlights include a new demo high for daytime show “Outnumbered,” and a new 2014 total viewer high for “Real Story with Gretchen Carlson.”

CNN managed demo wins from 3-5pmET. Fox News took all other hours of the day.

Ratings: CNN Wins Demo in Total Day, Prime; ‘New Day’ Delivers Highest Demo Ratings Ever

New Day FergusonFueled by continuing coverage of unrest in Ferguson, CNN won the A25-54 demographic in both total day and primetime Tuesday for the fourth straight day. CNN averaged 305,000 total day viewers and 529,000 primetime viewers, narrowly topping Fox News, which had 290,000 total day viewers and 523,000 primetime viewers. Fox News topped both metrics in total viewers.

“New Day” also won in the demo yesterday, delivering its highest-ever demo ratings. It was the first time in more than a year (since 7/16/13) that the CNN morning show has topped “Fox & Friends” among A25-54 viewers. CNN also won the demo in the daytime (9am-5pm) daypart. Fox News won in total viewers during both “Fox & Friends” and daytime.

During the evening hours that included live coverage from Ferguson, Fox News won in the demo at 8pmET, 10pmET, 11pmET and 12amET. CNN won at 7pmET and 9pmET. Fox News won every hour in total viewers.
