CNN, NBC Win Peabodys For Katrina

NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and CNN were awarded Peabodys for their coverage of Hurricane Katrina by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication today.

“The Peabody Award is considered the most selective and prestigious of awards in the electronic media industries,” the Web site says.

In awarding NBC Nightly News, the judges said the broadcast’s committment to cover the aftermath of the storm “resulted in extraordinary coverage and analysis.”

In awarding CNN, the judges said “no other national, 24-hour news service provided more essential, up-to-the-minute information for viewers, listeners and online users.”
