The early morning derailment of a Metro-North train in the Bronx has kept New York’s local station in continuing coverage, pre-empting most of the network’s Sunday public affairs programs. The 8 cars of the Grand Central-bound commuter train derailed as it rounded a bend, approaching the Spuyten Duyvil station killing four people an injuring more than 60 others.

“CBS Sunday Morning” and “Face the Nation” were pre-empted in New York, as was ABC’s “This Week” and NBC’s “Meet the Press.” In New York, “This Week” will air on WABC at 1pm. MSNBC will re-air “Meet the Press” at 2pmET.

NBC tells us for “Nightly News” they have Tom Costello on the scene with the latest on the investigation, Katy Tur will report on victims and those injured and Kristen Dahlgren will take a look at how holiday weekend travel will be affected.

> Update: One of those killed, 58-year-old Jim Lovell of Cold Spring, NY, worked as a writer and sound designer and was heading to Manhattan to work on preparing the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting Tuesday night.
