Curry Gets Bhutto Interview

Curry_1021.jpgThe Today Show’s Ann Curry scored an exclusive interview with Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto today. It’s the first U.S. broadcast interview since the deadly assassination attempt on Bhutto’s life last Thursday. The interview airs tomorrow morning on Today.

And it will be a high-profile morning on Today. Meredith Vieira gets the first live interview with Valerie Plame Wilson. Vieira’s predecessor Katie Couric got the first interview with Plame Wilson. It aired tonight on 60 Minutes.

>More. A partial transcript from the Bhutto interview:

CURRY: You knew it was going to happen.
BHUTTO: I knew an attempt would be made.
CURRY: So, you knew that people would be at risk.
BHUTTO: I knew people would be at risk.
CURRY: So, was it worth that risk given what has happened?
BHUTTO: And the people who came knew that there would be a risk. They put their lives on the line. And I put my life on the line. And we did it because we believe in a cause. We want to save Pakistan. And we think saving Pakistan comes by saving democracy.
