NBC News GOP Debate Set for Eve of Florida Primary

About an hour after CNN announced it was partnering with the Florida GOP for a presidential debate days ahead of the primary there, NBC News announced a date for its GOP debate, in collaboration with National Journal and the St. Petersburg Times.

NBC News will hold its debate January 30, the night before Floridians go to the polls for their primary. As first announced in April, the debate will take place at the St. Pete Times Forum in downtown Tampa — where the GOP will hold its nominating convention next August — and will air on MSNBC and NBC affiliates throughout Florida.

It was NBC’s own Tim Russert who famously predicted “Florida, Florida, Florida” on election night 2000. And in late January, 2012 all political eyes will again be on Florida.

CNN Partnering with Florida GOP to host Debate Days before Primary

Less than 24 hours after announcing a debate in partnership with the Arizona GOP, TVNewser has learned CNN is set to announce it is teaming up with the Republican party of Florida for a debate in January.

The debate, to be held in Jacksonville, will take place sometime between Jan. 26 and Jan 29, days ahead of the Florida primary, which, announced earlier today, will take place on Jan. 31. With 29 electoral votes, Florida follows only California (55) and Texas (38), tied with New York, for the most electoral votes. Tampa is also the site of the Republican National Convention in August where the GOP will choose its nominee.

CNN has three other GOP debates forthcoming: Tuesday, Oct. 18 in Las Vegas, the Arizona debate on Dec. 1, and one in Charleston, SC on January 19, 2012.

FNC’s Mike Huckabee Reconsidering Presidential Bid?

Two sources close to Fox News Weekend host Mike Huckabee tell Reuters that Huckabee may be thinking of jumping into the race for the GOP nomination for president. “He is entertaining the request for conversations about it,” one of the sources said. “I do not think it is a complete 100 percent ‘I’m reconsidering’ but he hasn’t shut the door on it.”

In May, Huckabee declared on his Fox News show that he would not be making a White House run.

Huckabee talked with his 2008 GOP primary rival, Mitt Romney today in an interview that will air tomorrow on his Fox News show “Huckabee.”

Romney’s press secretary Andrea Saul tweeted the picture, right, of Romney and Huckabee, along with Romney’s son and grandson.

Don Lemon on Trial Coverage: ‘I Think You Risk a Burnout From the Audience If It’s Overdone’

The manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson‘s doctor, Conrad Murray, began this week and CNN’s Don Lemon is one of hundreds of journalists covering it from the courthouse in Los Angeles. TVNewser talked with Lemon this morning. He shared his thoughts on the media frenzy surrounding the trial:

I’m not a news executive, but I think the people making decisions may equate trial coverage to Casey Anthony ratings, and I don’t think that is necessarily so. It depends on the circumstances around all of it. I think the Casey Anthony trial caught a lot of news organizations off guard. Just because something is sensational or has great ratings we shouldn’t devote our entire resources to it, and I think CNN realizes that. With us, we can have [sister network] HLN go all out and do trial coverage all the time, while on CNN we’re covering the death of Anwar al-Awlaki, and we still have balance. So that’s a plus for us. I think with the idea that every trial, every big name, every scandal results in ratings, you risk a burnout from the audience if it’s overdone.

We’ll have more of TVNewser’s interview with Don Lemon on Monday.

Biz Newsers Take a Seat at the Buffett

PRNewser was at the NYSE this morning as Business Wire celebrated its 50th birthday. Business Wire is owned by Berkshire Hathway, which is run by Warren Buffett, which means the business media were down on the floor, clamoring for an interview with the oracle of Omaha, who also rang the opening bell. Andrew Ross Sorkin conducted CNBC’s interview. Liz Claman interviewed Buffet for FBN. (Interestingly, this Reuters story on, cites the CNBC interview). CNN’s Alison Kosik interviewed Buffett live in the 11amET hour and Betty Liu stepped up to Buffett for Bloomberg.

Nancy Grace: ‘I’m just really surprised that a bra accident would make headlines’

HLN’s Nancy Grace continued to deny the nip slip — though not phrased that way — on “Good Morning America” this morning. Grace even got a nice set-up piece (video after the jump) before her interview with Robin Roberts. “I’m just really surprised that a bra accident would make headlines,” said Grace. “I really am.”

CNN to Host Another GOP Debate in December

GOP primary debates are like M&Ms to cable news channels, you can’t have just one. CNN announced that it will co-host a debate with the Arizona Republican Party on December 1. CNN has already televised two debates in June and September, and is slated to host another in Las Vegas October 18.

“Arizona is a key state that will play a pivotal role in helping Republicans choose their presidential nominee,” said Sam Feist, CNN Washington bureau chief and senior vice president in a statement. “CNN is honored to provide voters in Arizona and around the country an opportunity to hear the GOP candidates present their vision for the future.”
