An item in the University of Georgia student newspaper prompted serious concern earlier today about the state of Wolf Blitzer‘s beard with the lede: “He may have recently shaved his trademark beard, but there was no mistaking him.”
TVNewser hears, however, that Blitzer assured CNN colleagues who had read the piece earlier today that he had not “shaved” the beard, but it had merely been “trimmed” closely.
The article’s accompanying photograph of Blitzer — who, incidentally, was at UGA to receive the Distinguished Achievement in Broadcasting from DiGamma Kappa — is of such quality that determining the beard’s current condition with any exactness remains difficult. We should know more at the start of “The Situation Room.”
