With the unexpected death of Whitney Houston, HLN substantially improved its ratings from a year ago.
HLN was up +19% in total viewers and +5% in the demo in total day compared to February of last year. In primetime, the channel was up +22% in total viewers and +20% in the demo.
The ratings for February, 2012:
- Primetime (Mon-Sun): 426000 total viewers / 136,000 A25-54
- Total Day (Mon-Sun): 285,000 total viewers / 106,000 A25-54
Arguably the two biggest winners were the replay of “Nancy Grace” at 10 PM, which was up +11% in total viewers and slightly in the demo compared to last year, when “Joy Behar” was in the slot. At 11 PM, “Showbiz Tonight” was up +29% in total viewers and +20% in the demo.

In Feb 12, HLN increased its Total Day audience by +19% among total viewers (285k vs. 240k) and +5% among P25-54 viewers (106k vs. 101k).
In Prime (M-Su), HLN increased its delivery by +22% among total viewers (426k vs. 350k) and +20% among P25-54 viewers (136k vs. 113k).
Nancy Grace at 10 p.m. ET increased its audience by +11% among total viewers (337k vs. 303k) and was up slightly among 25-54 demo viewers (111k vs. 109k) compared to a year-ago; it’s second full month in the 10 p.m. timeslot.
In Feb, Showbiz Tonight at 11 p.m. ET increased among total viewers by +29% vs. year-ago (309k vs. 240k) and increased by +20% among P25-54 viewers (115k vs. 96k).
HLN Weekend Mysteries block more than doubled its audience in both total viewers and the P25-54 demo compared to a year-ago; up +116% among total viewers (360k vs. 167k) and up +106% among 25-54 viewers (128k vs. 62k).
