Friedman: Rachel Maddow MSNBC’s ‘Voice of Reason’

rachel-maddow062910.jpg MarketWatch.com’s Jon Friedman profiles MSNBC’s 9 p.m. host Rachel Maddow. Friedman calls Maddow the network’s “voice of reason,” a TV news anchor unlike most TV news anchors.

This is the rare 21st-century TV news star, an un-self-absorbed celebrity.

Maddow, 37, is the voice of reason at MSNBC. Notable for their verbal brawn, the hosts of cable news shows often behave on air as if they’re competing for a gold medal in preening.

Maddow gets her point across in a restrained but emphatic way. She doesn’t feel a need to outshout her guests.

Maddow, who lives in Massachusetts when she isn’t taping her show in New York, also talks to Friedman about being a part of the “Red Sox Nation”:

“Is my TV HD?” she asked, parroting my question. “I think it is!” Then she laughed. “I bought it on Amazon. I listen to the Red Sox on the radio. As a member of Red Sox Nation, we’re most comfortable when we’re losing.”
