‘GMA’ Saturday Wins First July Sweeps Ever

The Saturday edition of “Good Morning America” has won its first ever July sweeps. The win for the show, which debuted in 2004, comes as the weekday editions have begun to consistently beat NBC’s “Today” in Total Viewers. “Today” had also had a grip on Saturdays but the show’s co-anchor Amy Robach left NBC for ABC in May. Robach now appears frequently on “Good Morning America.” A permanent Saturday co-anchor has not been named for “Today.”

This was Saturday “GMA’s” strongest July sweep performance ever in both Total Viewers and A25-54 viewers. On Sundays, “GMA” still came in third, but just 17,000 viewers behind #2 “Today,” and 1.731 million viewers behind “CBS Sunday Morning,” which is the longtime #1 Sunday morning newscast.

The Saturday averages for July Sweeps (June 28-July 25, 2012):

  • Total Viewers: ABC: 3.309M / NBC: 3.058M / CBS: 1.671M
  • A25-54 viewers: ABC: 1.116M / NBC: 1.109M / CBS: 593K
