MSNBC News Director Susan Sullivan Becomes VP of Daytime Programming

Susan Sullivan is the new daytime VP at MSNBC, Rick Kaplan announced this morning. She will be responsible "for all live news programming on MSNBC during the daytime hours, as well as the primetime newsbreaks, overnight and the weekend news programming."

"I wanted to share with you a change in the leadership of the dayside team," Kaplan wrote in a memo to staffers this morning. "After four years helping to guide our network through numerous major events, including the 2004 elections and Hurricane Katrina, Mark Effron has decided it is time to tackle a new challenge. Replacing him will be Susan Sullivan, who has served ably as news director for the past 3 1/2 years. Susan has a wealth of experience. Before coming to MSNBC, she served as news director in a number of major markets, and won several awards for her outstanding work. Please join me in wishing Mark success in his next endeavor and congratulations to Susan as she steps up to this new role."

Sullivan's bio is after the jump...

From the press release:

"Sullivan joined MSNBC in 2002 as news director and while at MSNBC, has managed the network's daytime coverage of the Iraq war, the 2004 elections and Hurricane Katrina, among other events. Just prior to joining MSNBC, Sullivan was a consultant at NY1 in New York, where she helped launch the acclaimed program "New York Tonight," which was dedicated to helping the 9-11 victims. From 1998 to 2001, Sullivan was vice president and news director at the Fox O&O WNYW-TV, where she oversaw the network's successful primetime newscast. From 1996 to 1998 Sullivan was vice president and news director at WTTG-TV, also a Fox O&O, in Washington, DC. Sullivan also served as news director at KNXV-TV in Phoenix, Arizona for two years, from 1994-1996, where she launched four news broadcasts and established an award-winning investigative unit. She has also held positions with WCBS-TV in New York as an assistant news director, executive producer and managing editor, and KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, as producer and writer.

Sullivan has won numerous awards for her work including several Emmy Awards, Associated Press Awards and an Edward R. Murrow Award. She is a graduate of New York University and Fordham Law School and is a member of the New York Bar Association."
