Ratings Down 14 Percent for PGA Championship

Sunday’s final round of the PGA Championship on CBS drew a 4.3 overnight rating, a 14 percent drop over last year. Translation: The golf season’s final major tournament was seen in an average of 4.3 percent of U.S. homes in the top 56 markets.

Not surprisingly, CBS’ ratings peaked at 6.6 between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. ET, when Keegan Bradley and Jason Dufner were engaged in a three-hole playoff. Bradley won by one shot to earn his first major title.

The absence of big-name players on Sunday’s leader board no doubt affected the ratings, as Tiger Woods missed the cut and Phil Mickelson tied for 19th.

Bradley, who was 108th in the Official World Golf Ranking heading into the tournament, became the first player since Francis Ouimet in 1913 to win his major- tournament debut in the U.S. Following the win, Bradley rose to 29th in the world rankings.
