Remembering Peter: One Year Later

One year ago today, journalism lost one of its greats.

The news didn’t break until almost midnight on August 7, 2005.

“It is with a profound sadness and true sorrow that I report to you Peter Jennings has died, tonight, of lung cancer,” Charles Gibson announced in an ABC News special report.

Jennings was remembered as “the anchor’s anchor,” the “007 of network newsmen,” and “one of the best.”

For a week, TVNewser became a virtual memorial. Here’s the first post. A week later, a summary. In September, the memorial service. In December, a look back.
