Robin Roberts’ Mother Passes Away At 88

“Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts lost her mother yesterday. Lucimarian Roberts passed away in Mississippi at the age of 88. Roberts–who left “GMA” after yesterday’s show to be with her family–was by her side when she died.

“It is with deep regret and heavy prayer and reflection tonight that I write to tell you of the passing of Robin’s beautiful and inspiring mother, Lucimarian,” “GMA” EP Tom Cibrowski wrote in an email to ABC staff this morning. “Robin arrived home with her sister Sally-Ann, forging through flooded and blocked roads to be with her beloved Mother in time to see her.”

On “GMA” this morning, Diane Sawyer joined the program to help remember Lucimarian.

Next week, Roberts returns to New York to begin preparations for a bone marrow transplant to treat her MDS.
