Correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi is leaving CBS News at the end of her contract, two tipsters tell TVNewser.
The network says it won’t comment on contractual matters. Update: 3:45pm: But it will say that she is currently a CBS News correspondent.
The tipsters say news of Alfonsi’s intended departure circulated on Friday. “Alfonsi was very well-liked and highly respected amont the ranks,” one CBSer says. “CBS wanted her to stay and become the national correspondent,” describing her as a “rising star.”
She has been based in New York since 2004, and saw her airtime increase dramatically under Bob Schieffer. “She has been the lead correspondent on many domestic and international stories for the Network,” her bio says.
