Super Bowl Boulevard Festivities in Full Swing

lara spencer ginger zee tobogganWith just a few days to go until the Seattle Seahawks face the Denver Broncos at MetLife Stadium, the Super Bowl festivities are in full swing in Times Square. One of the attractions on Super Bowl Boulevard, which runs right past the “Good Morning America” studios, is a 60-foot toboggan run, which Lara Spencer and Ginger Zee raced down on the show this morning (video after the jump).

Zee and Spencer were out there a little earlier than CNN’s Andy Scholes and Christine Romans, who arranged to meet at the toboggan after “Early Start” this morning. But they may have overlapped with Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade and Maria Molina, who also participated in a toboggan race thismorning on “Fox & Friends.”

With three days to go until the Super Bowl on Fox, “Shepard Smith Reporting” and “Hannity” will both broadcast from Super Bowl Boulevard today. “The O’Reilly Factor” was scheduled to broadcast from Times Square, but will now originate from his Fox studio.

At the top of his show today, Smith introduced viewers to Super Bowl Boulevard: “I don’t know. The Weather Channel tries to name storms, I guess Fox Sports can name a street of they want to,” he joked.  Watch here.

Natasha Curry, Carlos Diaz Out at HLN

curry diaz hlnThe changes continue at HLN: anchors Natasha Curry and Carlos Diaz have left the network, TVNewser has learned.

Curry, the anchor of “Weekend Express,” joined HLN in 2008. She became the solo anchor of the weekend newscasts, as well as the fill-in anchor for “Morning Express with Robin Meade,” in 2010. A spokesperson for HLN says Curry decided to move back West to be with her family.

Diaz joined HLN in 2011 from ESPN. He is also relocating, moving to the West Coast after two years as an Atlanta-based sports anchor.

The two departures come just a week after network president Albie Hecht held an all-staff meeting in Atlanta to brainstorm ideas for the new HLN. Hecht, who joined HLN two months ago, has already tweaked HLN’s programming in primetime, daytime and weekends.

Replacements have not yet been named for Curry or Diaz. In the interim, a rotation of HLN anchors, including Lynn Berry, will anchor “Weekend Express,” while Joe Carter, Turner sports anchor Jared Greenberg and CNN sports anchor Andy Scholes will handle sports coverage.

Andy Scholes Named CNN Sports Correspondent

CNN has named Andy Scholes as a full-time sports correspondent. Scholes has been working part-time at CNN for a few months (and living out of the Omni Hotel, according to an internal email announcing his promotion), covering sports-related stories for the channel.

In his new role he will be covering sports and sports news for CNN, and will also be doing the “Bleacher Report” segment on “New Day.” Before joining CNN, he was a sports anchor and reporter for CW affiliate KDAF in Dallas.

Scholes joins Rachel Nichols on the sports beat. Nichols joined CNN and Turner Sports from ESPN earlier this year, and is the channel’s lead sports reporter.
