2013 TVNewser March Madness Bracket Challenge: ‘Sweet 16′ Update

The NCAA March Madness”Sweet 16″ is set, and a few surprises (Florida Gulf Coast University?? What??) mean that most of our brackets are busted. That said, we still have a good game going, with plenty of players still in contention.

Right now MSNBC’s Bill Wolff is all alone in leading the pack. CNBC’s KC Sullivan is close behind, and “Sqauwk Box”‘s Joe Kernen hot on his tail. A number of other participants are also within striking distance. At the bottom of the board is Fox News Channel’s Anna Kooiman and TVNewser’s Alex Weprin, whose plan to let a computer randomly generate his way to victory does not look good right now.

The full standings are after the jump.

Snowmaggedon Sounds So Much Cooler Than Nemo

So Nemo, is what we’re calling this? This storm will sound nothing like Ellen DeGeneres as a clownfish (oh wait, she was Dory). Anyway, maybe the Weather Channel can come up with more daunting names next year. Remember Snowpacalyse which hit three years this week? Also Snowmaggedon?

So, what are the networks planning? The Weather Channel had already blown out their reality shows in primetime last night with storm prep coverage. The news and business networks have reporters out in the field.

CNN is planning to be live overnight tonight and into Saturday covering the storm. Chad Myers and Jen Delgado will monitor the storm’s movement from the CNN Weather Center. Reporters and anchors including Jason Carroll, Susan Candiotti, Poppy Harlow, Ali Velshi, Ashleigh Banfield, Zain Asher, Alison Kosik, Mary Snow (appropriately), Gary Tuchman and Brian Todd will be out and about.

Brooke Baldwin anchors overnight coverage from balmy Atlanta. “This is when you know there’s a serious breaking news story,” said Baldwin during 2pmET coverage, “Look at all the pizza boxes at CNN.”

On Fox News, Anna Kooiman and Molly Lyon will report live. The storm has pushed the Saturday morning business block to the afternoon, from 2-4pmET. Kelly Wright and Jamie Colby will continue with live coverage from 10-Noon.

Ann Kooiman has been ‘Foxified’

Despite no Triple Crown threat, Fox News Channel’s Anna Kooiman will be out covering the Belmont Stakes today, as she was yesterday when news broke that I’ll Have Another was being taken out of the running.

Since joining Fox News late last year, Kooiman has also covered the Kentucky Derby and Daytona 500. She tells her hometown Charlotte Observer about what she misses about Charlotte and the differences between working in local and national TV.

In Charlotte, the station would pay for hair appointments and makeup. In New York, there’s a wardrobe department and hair and makeup artists.

“They take care of making you look good … These people are experts. We call it getting ‘Foxified.’”

Janice Dean Interviews New Fox News Correspondent Anna Kooiman

Janice Dean got a new office-mate this week: Anna Kooiman, who is the newest addition to the team at Fox News. On her blog, Dean interviewed Kooiman, who will cover health and fitness for FNC:

Hobbies?

I am definitely a NEWS NERD. I’m enjoying working for FOX during an election year. Politics can be more entertaining to watch than professional sports or reality television! My other passion is fitness. I like to compete in triathlons and marathons. I ran distance on the track team at UNCW. And I was an exercise instructor in Charlotte. My favorite class is Turbo Kick.  Read more
